Emberlin Academy / Projects

Don’t just learn it.

Make it.

Introduction

At Emberlin Academy, projects are where ideas leave the classroom.

A project might begin with a question, a story, a problem, an observation or a wild idea.

From there, learners work together to research, develop, create and share something real.

Sometimes the best way to learn is to make something that did not exist before.

What does an Emberlin project look like?

It could be a short film.

A theatre production.

A podcast series.

A children’s story.

A documentary.

A digital campaign.

A cultural research project.

A live performance.

A new character.

A publication.

A creative business idea.

Or something we haven’t imagined yet.

From Idea to Output

The Emberlin creative process

Every project can move through the Emberlin creative process:

(01)

Discover

What are we curious about?

(02)

Explore

What do we need to understand?

(03)

Create

What can we make from what we’ve discovered?

(04)

Produce

How do we turn the idea into something tangible?

(05)

Share

Who needs to see, hear, experience or engage with it?

(06)

Reflect

What did we learn — and where can the idea go next?

Cross-Guild projects

The Guilds are strongest when they work together.

Imagine a project

Imagine a project exploring the meaning of an African coming-of-age tradition.

  • Veritas Could research the history, meaning and contemporary perspectives.
  • Lumina Could turn the research into a script, performance or story.
  • Novus Could record, produce, package and distribute the final work.

The result is more than a classroom assignment. It becomes a piece of creative work.

Bigger than the Academy

Where projects can go

Some projects may remain learning experiences. Others may become something more.

A student-created story could become a publication.

A podcast concept could become a series.

A performance could become a touring production.

A digital idea could become a business.

A character could become intellectual property.

A research project could inspire a conversation, campaign or community programme.

This is where the wider Emberlin ecosystem becomes important.

  1. Academy
  2. Studios
  3. Publishing
  4. Experiences
  5. Licensing
  6. Foundation

Learning can lead to creation.

Creation can lead to opportunity.

Opportunity can lead to something that reaches far beyond the person who started it.

Project showcases

We want the work to be seen.

Share what you make

Through showcases, screenings, performances, exhibitions, digital releases, publications and other creative platforms, learners have opportunities to share what they have made.

This is where you don’t just tell us what you can do. You show us.
